This room was previously an R.M. Barr Smith’s office where the firearms, family jewellery, and important documentation, such as the station’s wages and finances, were kept. It once housed an entire wall of built-in gun safes with ammunition, rifles, and shotguns used for shooting game. Now it is a spacious guest room that features a fireplace and an ensuite with a clawfoot bathtub.
Before becoming a guest room, the Armoury previously served as the Homestead’s office and head quarters for the farm’s operations. It was here that important meetings between farm managers and owners were held and crucial decisions about the farm’s livelihood were made. Workers also used to collect their wages from this room using the exterior entrance.
During the renovation of the Armoury, a fireplace was discovered in the bathroom, a clear indication that this room had not always been a guest room. To keep the original features of the Homestead intact, the fireplace was restored and is now a stand-out feature of the room.
Framed above the bed is a gift from a family member and antique gun collector that showcases some of the types of arms from the early periods.
