Hidden gems
Tasting Treasures of Western Victoria
Home to some of Australia’s best shiraz, Western Victoria offers excellent dry, red wine varieties. Usually medium-bodied, earthy, and with a hint of pepper or eucalyptus (from the native gum trees of the region), these wines are distinct and down-to-earth.
While this region may be best known for its shiraz, there are several other wine varieties that Western Victoria has to offer. Sparkling wine has been a specialty for the Great Western sub-region of the Grampians, especially its sparkling shiraz. The Pyranees region is also a leader in sparkling as the Blue Pyrenees Estate 2010 Midnight Cuvee won World Champion Australian Sparkling at the 2014 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships.
Furthermore, the region specializes in cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, chardonnay, and riesling so there’s plenty to taste and more to share.
A local, electic range
The Best of Western Victoria
At Mount William Station, our collection aims to showcase the best that the Western Victoria region has to offer. With the highest concentration of five-star rated wineries, we maintain that some of Australia’s best kept vineyards are our neighbours in the Grampians, Pyranees, and Henty regions. From wineries that pioneered wine-making in Australia to emerging up-and-comers, we’re committed to supporting the local wine-makers that make up the diverse landscape of the Grampians. Every winery in the region is as unique as its microclimate and we aim to highlight the electic range of wines produced in Western Victoria.
From the Great Western sub-region of the Grampians is Best’s Wines Great Western. Founded in 1866, they one of Australia’s oldest and continuously family owned and operated wineries. Similarly to Mount William Station, Best’s has a rich connection to the region, making them experts of their craft.
Another winery with deep roots in the region is Seppelt Wines. Having been at the forefront of Australian winemaking for more than 165 years, they pioneered sparkling shiraz and the commercialization of cool climate wines that this region is best known for.
Emerging as a premier boutique winery in the region, Grampian Estates is known for its cool-climate shiraz, sparkling shiraz, and chardonnay.
