How do you open the front gate?

On your welcome check-in email, a mobile number that triggers the front sliding homestead gates is provided. Please dial when you approach the gate to open. Any issues please call reception at 0497 614 092.

What is the difference between staying at the Homestead and the Shearers' Quarters?

The Homestead and Shearers’ Quarters are two different accommodation options when staying at Mount William Station and are approximately 750m away from each other. The historic Homestead is our luxury accommodation with seven rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Guests staying at the Homestead have a three-course dinner every night and a cafe-style breakfast in the morning included in their stay. They are also able to use our Homestead amenities such as the tennis court, outdoor pool, golf course, and sauna. Down the road is our Shearers’ Quarters, a rustic and cozy accommodation that was once home to the shearers and workers that worked on the farm. It has since been modernized but still holds that old world rustic charm. With eight bedrooms, three bathrooms, and shared living spaces, it is the perfect accommodation for groups looking to getaway to the countryside.

Is Mount William Station actually a working farm?

Mount William Station is still a working farm. Next door, Rob Abbott owns Mount William Charolais, and continues the family legacy of breeding the rare, white Charolais breed in Victoria. Moreover, Sybil Abbott-Burmeister runs a composite ewe flock, producing lambs for sale.

What animals will we see at Mount William Station?

At Mount William Station, we have two farm cats and 8 chickens that roam the property freely. On neighbouring properties we also have countless sheep, Charolais cows, and horses. In terms of wildlife, there are numerous birds, rabbits, kangaroos, and more to be spotted in and around the property.

Is Mount William Station kid friendly?

Yes! From playing tennis to jumping in the pool, there are an endless number of activities for kids to enjoy during your stay at Mount William Station. High chairs and cots can be made available as well.

Is Mount William Station accessible?

Accommodation Accessibility

  • The Homestead is built on a single level and includes wide internal spaces suitable for most mobility aids.

  • Entrance Access: There are small steps at the house entrances. These have been successfully navigated by past guests using wheelchairs or mobility aids.

  • Accessible Room:
    – The Elizabeth Wing features a private entrance with ramp access, as well as grab rails in the ensuite bathroom.

  • Additional Options:
    – The Barr Smith Master Room has double entry doors and a large double shower, which some guests using wheelchairs have found suitable, though it does not include handrails.


Transport & Activities

It is recommended to travel with your own vehicle, however we are happy to coordinate external transport upon request. Options include:

  • Private transfer to local wineries in Great Western

  • Guided visit to iconic Grampians lookouts

  • Cultural outing to Brambuk – The National Park and Cultural Centre

Mobility Access in the Grampians National Park

An all-terrain TrailRider wheelchair is available through Parks Victoria, allowing visitors with limited mobility to access a range of easy to medium-level walking tracks in the Grampians National Park.

  • Parks Victoria offers trained sherpas to assist with TrailRider excursions.

  • Alternatively, the TrailRider can be hired independently for use with your own support.

  • Advance booking required (typically 14 days)

What is the best way to get to Mount William Station?

You can get to Mount William Station by car, train, or helicopter. Please refer to our “Getting Here” page for more details.

Where does the name Mount William Station come from?

Mount William, the tallest peak in the Grampians, is named after King William IV. The farm used to reach the foot of Mount William so it was named Mount William Station.

What kind of events can you host?

When is the annual Mount William Station Polo Tournament?

How far is the nearest town?

The nearest town to Mount William Station is Ararat, which is 30 minutes by car. The town of Halls Gap is 45min drive, while Dunkeld is 35min drive.

If I book the Shearers' Quarters, can I use the pool and Homestead facilities?

If you’ve booked the Shearers’ Quarters and would like to use the Homestead facilities, please enquire at [email protected]. In general, add-ons are subject to availability and whether the homestead is hosting an event or been booked exclusively:
– Access to pool, tennis court, and sauna: $50 pp
– Three course gourmet set dinner at the Homestead: $100 pp
– Hiking Lunch Packs: $35 pp

Is there a fridge in the Homestead or Shearers' Quarters?

In the Homestead, the fridge in the kitchen may be used to store your items. Please give your items to a member of our staff to put in the fridge for you. The Shearers Quarters has two fridges. A food and drinks fridge.

Are there any hikes on the property? What are best hikes nearby?

On the property, guests are encouraged to walk down to Lake Anne for an easy track. In the nearby Grampians National Park, there are several hikes – please see a list of our staff favourites here.

Is dinner and breakfast included in the room rate?

When you book a room in the Homestead directly with us, our three-course communal dining experience and cafe-style breakfast is included. Please let us know if any dietary requirements at least 72 hours before your stay.

Is there a set menu for dinner?

Yes, our chef serves a three course set dinner menu that is inspired by the local, seasonal ingredients. No two nights are ever the same so guests can expect a range of dishes that showcase the best of the Grampians.

What are the breakfast and dinner times?

Breakfast is from 8:30 – 10:00 AM and dinner is communal dining at 7 PM. We serve pre dinner drinks in the lounge room from 6pm.

Can I rent the property for exclusive use?

Yes, the property can be rented out for exclusive use. Please book online or inquire at [email protected]

When is check in / check out?

Check in is at 3 PM and check out is at 10 AM.

Can I bring a pet?

Pets are not allowed on the property due to the livestock.

What lunch options do you have available?

Lunch can be pre-arranged when you make your booking. From poolside charcuterie boards to hiking lunch packs, we can customize your lunch to fit your plans. Please pre-arrange your lunch at least 72 hours before your arrival at [email protected]

Is there wifi on the property?

Yes, there is wifi on the property. However, reception can be spotty depending on which network you are with.

Do you offer horseback riding?

Yes! We partner with Globetrotting and Australian Saddle Safaris and proudly offer 5-night trail riding packages in winter. Please find more information here

For individual stays, horseback riding is offered by Grampians Horse Riding Center in the Wartook Valley region of the Grampians National Park.

What are your staff hours?

Our staff work from approximately 8 AM to 10 PM. If you should require assistance and cannot find a staff member on-site, please call our reception line at 0497 614 092.

Is coffee and tea available?

Tea and coffee is available at the self-service station in the Homestead kitchen. During breakfast hours, barista made coffee is available.

Do you have equipment for tennis and golf?

Yes! We have tennis rackets and balls, and golf clubs and balls for guests to use on the property. We also have a variety of lawn games, such as Finksa, as well.

Is there a bar available on site?

For events, we have the Bluestone Stables Bar that is full equipped with cold drink storage, kegs, and other bar amenities.

For individual guests staying at the Homestead, please just order drinks anytime with our staff. At the pool house, we have an honesty bar system in summer.

How does Mount William Station approach sustainability?

At Mount William Station, sustainability is central to everything we do—from reducing waste and managing water responsibly to sourcing locally and protecting our natural environment. We are proud to hold Sustainable Tourism Accreditation and have published a detailed Sustainability Plan as well as a Emission Reduction Plan outlining our ongoing commitments and milestones. Guests can enjoy a luxury stay with confidence that their experience is grounded in care for people, place, and planet.

Are there heaters and/or fans in the rooms?

Yes, the Homestead stays cool in the summers and we run the fireplaces during the winter. Additional heaters and fans are also available upon request.
