Robert Barr Smith played in the first recorded polo game in Adelaide in 1878. Since then, the Abbott and Barr Smith family have had a longstanding connection to Australian polo. In 1985, Charles Abbott, as the president of the Victorian and Australian Polo Councils, hosted royals Lady Diana and the now, King Charles in Werribee.
