Existing on the lands of the Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali people, the Wama Foundation is ever-changing and evolving – much like nature itself. Later, stage two will see the site continue to transform with additional landscaping and planting, boardwalks, bird hides, a nature play zone, wildlife encounters, and a sculpture trail.

The Great Western Makers Market is a true community affair. Held in the Great Western Hall, the stalls showcase a host of different crafts, with their motto “make it, bake it, grow it”. From handcrafted cards and pots to woodwork gifts and beautiful brooches, it’s the perfect place to pick up a unique gift.

Ararat Trash & Treasure Market is a long-established indoor and outdoor country market with approximately 60 stallholders. Take a guided tour of J Ward, Ararat’s Old Gaol and Lunatic Asylum. Hear stories of its time as a gaol with murderers and thieves and later as the home for Victoria’s criminally insane. Tours run at 10am and 1pm each day with extra tours at 11am and 2pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Victorian public and school holidays (except Christmas Day).

Aradale Asylum was an Australian psychiatric hospital, located in Ararat, a rural city in Victoria, Australia. Now a ghost “town”, Aradale was once known as the Ararat Lunatic Asylum. Aradale and its two sister asylums at Kew and Beechworth were commissioned to accommodate the growing number of “lunatics” in the colony of Victoria. Construction began in 1865 and was opened for patients in 1867. It was closed as an asylum in 1993. At its height, Aradale
